New Device - No Sync

I've always struggled with intermittent problems with ActiveSync 6.1 Vista
Home Premium. Lately I started getting this error out of the blue:

---------------------------
Windows Mobile Device Center
---------------------------
Synchronization cannot be started because you are not able to log on to the
network and access information. Restart your desktop computer and
synchronize again. If the problem persists, contact your network
administrator.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

I deleted that partnership and no longer use the Motorola Q device. I'm now
using a Samsung Omnia. It syncs ok at home with Win XP, but I tried here at
the office with Vista today and got the aforementioned error again.

Sync Center 'error log' says "Sync failed with Samsung Omnia" then
"ActiveSync encountered a problem on the desktop." That doesn't mean much to
me, I'm afraid.

I rebooted the computer as per the err msg. I restarted the handheld.
Doesn't help.

I *can* browse the contents of my device (internal and storage card) so I
guess some sort of connection is made.

Any help or guidance would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

After numerous partnership removals, reboots, etc. it started working on the
Vista system at work (although it managed to delete a lot of calendar data
from the device notwithstanding complete absence of "conflicts").

But now there are problems on the XP system at home.

---------------------------
Microsoft ActiveSync
---------------------------
ActiveSync encountered a problem on the desktop.
Support Code:86000107
---------------------------

Anybody know what that one is? It's intermittent. I disconnect/reboot and
sometimes it's fine. Then it's not.

The issue seems to be with Notes. I select Resolve Items but it keeps
throwing the error.

I exported then deleted all Notes, then imported them. It seemed to be fine.
For a while. Now it's back to the same problem.

Device is a Samsung Omnia. Previous device was a Motorola Q.

PS: I do get the err msg "Synchronization cannot be started because you are
not able to log on to the network and access information. " on the XP machine
but it seems to clear, then start syncing.

Hi John,

If you disable Notes synchronization, does it sync without the error code?
Additionally, you might want to run scanpst to see if it helps fix the
issue. Disconnect
the device and then run it on the PC.

Yes it does. (But I need my notes and synchronized.)

I'm afraid that's N/A since I use 2003.

My apologies. Turns out I do have Scanpst.exe (it was in a different
directory.)

It did find errors. It repaired. And now I'm back to the aforementioned err
msg;

---------------------------
Microsoft ActiveSync
---------------------------
ActiveSync encountered a problem on the desktop.

Support Code:86000107
---------------------------

Then I do the disconnect, reconnect, disconnetc, dance and intermittently
get this error:

---------------------------
Microsoft Outlook
---------------------------
Synchronization cannot be started because you are not able to log on to the
network and access information. Restart your desktop computer and
synchronize again. If the problem persists, contact your network
administrator.
---------------------------

I click ok and it keeps going. But now I'm also back to Notes requiring
"attention". Resolve Items doesn't help.

Did you upgrade to 6.1, or did the Omnia come with it already installed?

If you do the following Google search,
http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...esync+86000107
you will see that a number of people (including me) are having the same
problem.

Apparently, Microsoft has released a fix for this to the OEMs, but it's up
to the OEMs to release it to their customers. To the best of my knowledge,
none have so far.
