Having read all the docs before in search of "new features" (Notable
Changes, etc. etc.) I think the essential summary is, sadly

(*although the new Blue Screen On Demand feature is nice if you need an

The service pack is essentially a roll up of all updates plus a few fixes.
New features are rarely if ever included in a service pack, so why the
surprise that there are no new features included?

MS stated all along that there will be no no new features included. It is
only the wishful thinking of some that started any rumours to the effect
that there would or might be features included..

Re. blue screens, the only BSOD I ever get is if I set detail in games too
high.. Many Vista users have yet to see a BSOD..

Because XP's service packs were more than mere rollups of bug fixes.

Remember most end users SP experience started with XP.

"Many" I use that qualifier when I'm uncomfortable with saying most.
And it's a sad thing that you cannot say that MOST "Vista users have yet
to see a BSOD.."

As Kurt alludes to, Microsoft change the definition of "Service Pack" with
the sort of frequency that most of us apply to our socks. Sometimes it can
mean different things depending on which building on the Microsoft campus
you're sitting in on any given day.

For example:
SP1 for Vista - no new features.
SP1 for Exchange 2007 - introduces W2008 server compatibility, CAS
enhancements, improvements to OWA, greatly enhanced interface, greatly
enhanced public folder support.
SP3 for Windows XP - NAP support. Black hole detection. Changes to setup
routine (iirc)
SP1 for Office 2007 - Win 2008 support

One of the (currently shipping or literally just about to ship) items I
menion above is an odd one out when compared to the others. Can you guess
which one it is?

Now can you really blame people who are confused by all this? I mean maybe
they could believe Microsoft but then didn't the CEO recently confess that
Vista was shipped before it was finished? ("Work in progress" was the term
used, I think).

I don't notice any difference at all.

I see no new features for sp1, I for one, can't really say it did much of
anything except get my sleep to work properly (which I rarely use).....I had
no real problems pre sp1, I have no problems now.....so?
I can say, in XPMCE I had blue screens on this computer weekly, with Vista I
have had one in a year when I forgot to suspend my a/v software while
installing ATI vid. drivers....I also had one problem with the icons getting
wacked out for a few hours, other than that....no problems at all.
