New Folder problem

When I try to make a new folder, rather than giving me a chance to enter
a name, a brand-new folder pops up with a bird name. Among others, I
have seen turkey, goose, loon, sea gull. I then have to rename this
ready-named folder. Is this some strange, hidden option in Vista that I
haven't been able to find in the Dell doc files or anywhere else? AVG
tells me that I am virus-free. I've never seen anything like this from
3.1 to Vista. Incidentally, to me the first three express my feelings
about Vista, and I'm waiting for dodo and passenger pigeon to pop up.
Any ideas how to get Vista to stop doing this?

This is not caused by Vista. Looks like something that malware would do.
What have you installed recently and just prior to this happening?

It has nothing to do with Vista.
You must have installed AlZip at sometime:
Quote from their web page:

"New folder:
Simply click New folder to create one ('directory' and 'folder' refer to the same thing). The default folder name will
be a species of bird. New folder functions the same as New --> Folder in Windows Explorer. "

I meant to add that it seems to be a zip/compression tool something like
Winzip. I presume its been downloaded to unzip something although it beats
me why anyone would install something that names folders like that!!!!

And you dont need it as vista has its own. Right click on the desktop,
choose new, then "compressed(zipped)folder. Drag stuff in to compress - drag
stuff out to unzip.

If you dont need Altools just uninstall from Start menu - settings - control
panel - programs and features.

Spikey--
Thank you! It was indeed ALZip. I had installed it because I liked it
better than WinRAR for .rar files--but not _that_ much better. It has
gone to the Great Bit Bucket In The Sky, where it shall remain. Case
closed. And to the others who responded, and very qickly, I might add,
thanks for your responses.

I think you got a virus.

Google "online virus scan" Go to Symantic.

It doesn't install any software.

I hope you tossed it "the bird" as you removed it.
