New forced upgrade logging out very frequently

With the new version myself and the rest of my co-workers are being logged
out of Live Messenger very frequently. The program will log us back in or we
can choose to log back in. This has happened in the middle of conversations
and while no conversation was occuring. This only started with the new
version.

I think that this might be due to the fact that we are running a two wan
router connected to two different ISPs. The router will switch traffic is
order to load balance. What ports does this latest version use for
maintaining the connection or log status of a user?

Are there any other possible causes for our problem?

Join the club, this is a constantl issue on my Home XP m/c - no fancy
networks.
All Win applications are upto date etc, no issues with 7.5 but this new
version 8 was an auto upgrade that gave us no options........pity is was not
fully tested for these bugs.

Greetings John,

The ports haven't changed, basic connectivity in 8.x is the same.

For testing purposes, downgrade to back to the new updated 7.0 on one of the PCs and see if
you experience the problem there.

To do so, download from here:
http://microsoft.com/downloads/detai...4-9505f47bed45

Then you'll need to engage compatibility mode so it doesn't force you to upgrade. To do so,
go to the \Program files\MSN Messenger folder, right click on the msnmsgr.exe file, choose
Properties, then the Compatibility tab, choose Windows 2000, click OK and then run Messenger
as per normal.

Greeting Jonathan,

I did go back to 7.0 as you suggested and I have no more logging out/in
problems with 7.0. Before the force upgrade I was on 8.0.0792 without
anyproblems as well so I basically have a few questions:

1. Can I use the same proceedure and go back to 8.0.0792 by changing the
Compatibility tab?
2. Will then the 8.0.0792 have the security vulnerability that Microsoft is
concerned about?
3. If the answer to #2 is yes then what do I need to do in my network that
will allow the new forced version or version 8.5 to work without logging
out/in frequently?

Thank you for the help,
John

Hmm, maybe this is the solution for me too, I have 4 accounts, and I could
only sign in with 2 of them on my stationary pc, but in my laptop I could
sign in with all accounts. And I have WLM on the laptop too, but version 8.1
and I have Windows Vista on the laptop..

But do I have to uninstall WLM 8.5 before i downgrade to 7.0?? And if I do
have to unistall WLM, do I lose all my icons and pictures and so on??
Before I upgrade I have MSN 7.5 and I was very very happy with this, but
then you forced us to upgrade, that´s not okey. I think we should have the
possibility to choose which version we want to use..
