I have a brand new Dell laptop and I just had the scariest thing happen. I
was working using Remote Desktop to log onto my work computer and all of
sudden the computer was like flying by. All I really caught was words like
mini dump and Crash. I then was able to start the computer in Safe Mode and I
shut down and then turned it back on. So far so good, but i am terrified it
is going to do that again. Does anyone know what all that was about? This is
a new Dell laptop with Vista on it. It is Vista Home Premium. It is a Dell
Inspiron with 2038 MB Ram. The processor says Intel Core (TM) 2 Duo CPU @
1.50 GHz. I am scared to work!

If it happens again, call Dell.
That is what the warranty is for.

I think you should not be afraid, not at all.

How else will you find out more about this potential problem. Even if you
call DELL or talk to them in live concierge exchange they will ask you if
the problem has ever been replicated. Put yourselves in their shoes/

They are nice and kind, they try to be helpful. it is fun to talk to them
but their options are not boundless. Frequently I get more help on
collateral issues for instance I call on one problem but the guy may have
experience with burring DVDs on a personal level and shares it but would not
be able to help with a unique problem after searching his manuals and
talking to his super.

They are young guys with perhaps a year or two experience if that much. Be
realistic. troubleshooting every single problem requires years of exposure.

Go ahead and work, work as much as you can. if you salvaged it once, you
will be able to do it again. I had quite a few episodes like this, always
with recovery. Juts this afternoon: Vista freezes, forceful power off, safe
mode, back to work. Prior to that it worked for a month.
