yw..even a toast only lasts for a limited time.
If using a Hotmail type account (live.com, hotmail.com, msn.com etc) WLMsgr
when open/signed on will always show the number of new messages in that
signed on Live ID's inbox. If using the same Live ID in WLM, then clicking
the mail icon in WLMsgr will open WLM (if not already open). The WLMsgr
toast appears for all accounts in WLM not just the same Live ID (when both
are signed on with the same Live ID).
I don't recall any Msft client putting a 'new mail' icon on the desktop (be
it WLM, OE, WM, Outlook) thus it would be doubtful that any resources would
be devoted to creating a new mail icon on a user's profile (desktop).

Thanks! I didn't think there was such an option but I'd like to see
one. I have my WLM set to check for new mail every 5 minutes but if I
happen to be away from the computer and miss the audible alert, it
would be nice to look at the screen and see a flashing icon! Oh well!
