New Microsoft Updater doesn't work worth beans

Ever since installing the new MS updater, as opposed to the old Windows one,
my updates have all required manual downloading and installation while
offline, as any update installation run through the updater FAILS, but a
re-scan afterwards shows the files was downloaded, but is failing to install.

I cannot find ANY help whether AVG, Ewido, Spybot or AdAware would interfere
(all current free editions) with this, and Microsoft has FAILED to reply to
three successive reports about this problem.

I don't want to have to gut XP to the roots and manually put it all back in,
as I'm on a 56k dialup, and it takes forever (and no, its not the dialup,
cause manually they come in just dandy)

Can anyone help me?

PS: Its detecting a driver for my new LG L1952T LCD screen, but there is NO
manual download link available, and an MSN site search comes up with nothing.

I don't see a response yet to your message.

If possible, call you restore to a prior date, or uninstall the
updater?

After you have downloaded the updates and saved them, then scan them
with AVG. If you DL'd from MS, they should be okay. Then disconnect
from the internet, and TURN OFF the AVG! Turn off Spybot and your
other anti-malware programs.

Then install the updates.

Reboot.

Are they there?

Awaiting your responses with baited breath, I remain, yours truly,
