New product key after update?

Why do I need a new product key after every windows update?

I have automatic updates turned on, as recommended.

After every update XP requires a new product key. The Internet reactivation
does not work at times, and I have to call customer service.

It’s extremely frustrating and an inconvenience. Why do I need a new product
key, I’m just updating?

You shouldn't need to. Do you have by any chance run "XP-AntiSpy" or
similar "Tuning" programs?

Pardon? Which products do you have *exactly* installed, which are
running permantly in the background? Please list them all with their
complete product name.

If you do indeed have XP-AntiSpy installed (that's an almost useless
but popular "tuning" and "security" tool), try entering the following
lines under "Run" in the Start menu and hit [Enter] after each line:

regsvr32 licdll.dll
regsvr32 regwizc.dll

All of them parallel running in the background? <shrug>
Just try it without _any_ of these running.

You've tried reregistering the DLL files mentioned in my previous
post, did you?
