I installed Vista SP-1 about a month ago, and didn't have any problem with
it. But then my hard drive had a problem, and I had to restore a pre-update
version. It worked fine.
I re-installed SP-1 about 2 days ago, successfully. Just like the first
time, I had to run a system file check, and then SP-1 installed fine.
The only other thing I've installed in AdAware. I haven't even let any of
the windows updates go through (it asks me first).
Today when I booted the machine, it created a new profile called
username.machinename (with actual values, of course). My old profile
(username) is still there.
So I brought up the Control panel, and it's empty. Nothing there in either
view.
I right-clicked on Computer to show properties, and it doesn't work.
I double-clicked on the Windows Update icon in the system tray and it
doesn't do anything.
I'm pretty sure I have another backup from prior to the SP-1 installation.
Am I going to have to restore it, or do you have any ideas how I can fix
this problem?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
