hello - I have a lab setup with two identical installs of Windows Server 2003
R2, Standard edition that I created ad testcompany.local. I patched both
servers completely including service packs and all hot fixes. I followed
instructions in http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc737358.aspx to
install DFS. When I get to the step that pertains to installing DFS by one
of the three ways available I am stumped. I copied this section out of the
doc so it was more clear as to what I am having trouble with. I am doing
this on the PDC

To install Distributed File System using Manage Your Server
4. In the Add File Server Role Wizard, click Next, and then click Replicate
data to and from this

That option does not exist!!!
server. Follow the steps in the wizard to complete the installation. You
will be asked to restart the server when the installation is complete.
To update the file server role using Manage Your Server
3. On the File Server Environment page, click Replicate data to and from
this server.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Does not exist!!!!
To install Distributed File System using Add or Remove Programs
1. In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components, highlight Distributed File System,
and then click Details.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Category does not exist!!!
3. Click all three options, and then click OK.

If I look at admin tools, I have the old dfsgui.msc, when I do a search for
dfsmgmt*.* on the server I get dfsmgmt.dll but nothing else. What am I
missing; I have 2 fully patched servers doing the same thing. I checked with
the feature list on Windows server 2003 standard and it is available. The R2
DFS management tool should be called dfsmgmt.msc but I have no way to install
it. Please help. Thanks.

-Damian

Win 2k3 R2 is a two disk set. It sounds like you haven't installed the
second disk. Put the second disk of the R2 set in the CD drive and run
setup2 to install the R2 features, then go in to add remove programs and you
will find the correct categories.
