Just for information: with effect from today, Tuesday 5 June 2007, the new
UpdateAgent v3.0 is being pushed to UK customers via Automatic Update and
MU/WU.

The first use of the Windows Update/Microsoft Update web site after the new
UpdateAgent has been installed causes dialog checks for the installation of
the new ActiveX controls, as normal.

I note that the versions of wups.dll and wups2.dll in C:\Windows\System32
are *not* updated in this automatic client update, whereas they *were*
updated if you manually install the UpdateAgent3.0 file.

That's not good, Robin. Both wups.dll and wups2.dll *should* be updated
whether via a manual or 'automagical' install of WUA V3 .
Is there a subfolder present in SoftwareDistribution\Download that
contains it ?

Now I see that the update of the versions in System32 is deferred until
after the next Windows restart: they are there now.

The other copies of the new versions are in
c:\windows\system32\SoftwareDistribution\Setup\Ser viceStartup\wups2.dll\7.0.6000.374

Thanks for the update on the update <w> Since it was an automatic
update, both files were in use.
Haven't seen a restart required yet when manually installing it.

FWIW, there are 13 different versions in wups2.dll and 14 different ones
in wups.dll on my system. Am wondering if/when the eventual issue will
occur.
