Yeah I was in the middle of a game on my laptop that has the new Windows
Vista on it when the game just shut down, then the computer restarted because
of new updates that were installed, causing a loss of information. what
moron came up with the idea to have the computer download and then restart
without warning and without giving the user time to save their data? That
makes the list of the dumbest ideas ever. Only an idiot would think that was
a good idea. I mean to run any program or do anything or download anything I
am bombarded with questions about whether I am the one wanting to do that,
but yet this happens, without warning, causing me to lose a lot. I am just
glad I wasn't in the middle of writing my thesis when this happened or else I
would really be ****ed at likely having lost a lot of work. The idiot who
thought of this idea needs to be fired, and the idiot that hired him or her
needs to be fired. The idiot that should have caught such a stupid idea
should be fired. Why would anyone want such a thing on their computer? I can
see why so many people are downgrading back to XP. With such morons in the
company, its a wonder Microsoft hasn't been run into run into the ground.
What great idea do you have next? A computer that shocks its users
constantly? Or one that every other day deletes any and all files the user
has on it? That seems to be the tracks these idiots are on.

Control panel>system and maintenance>windows update.

You can configure it as you'd like to.

That still doesn't answer the question. Why would anyone think that such a
setting would be wanted? And why make it the default setting. Why not do it
like XP where it downloads when you shut the computer off? What idiot would
think a setting, where the computer can at anytime and without warning shut
off, is a good setting?

Not answering the question so much as saying it's preventable.

In some scenarios, like playing an online game, you don't want
Vista indexing, scanning for virii, or utilizing the network connection.

it bogs the game down, and, as a result, you end up dead. or worse,
lag, and kill teammates with a grenade, and go to Leavenworth.

If I was to wager a guess as to what happened, I would think
that the desktop was empty except for the box that was asking
"Do you want to reboot now?" Well, hitting enter on it may or
may not have caused it to do so. Or clicking on it with the mouse,
if snap to is enabled. And if you computer shifted
it's focus to the desktop, even for a second, and that box was open....

It's pretty obvious from the initial post that you were,
in a word, ENRAGED!!!!

We've come a long way from Mario and the
magic mushrooms.
