Where is a website to tell new vista users what they can shut off to help
speed up our laptops. this is my first laptop and only used XP for the past
6 years. Also all the Toshiba garbage that starts up that dosen't need to. I
haven't had this crap since my 2001 HP. Then I built my next pc 8 months
later.
Thanks
Jack

Most of the Toshiba stuff can be shut off. You can try googling for
the names of the programs. FYI - Toshiba will be no help at all -they
can't even tell you what the programs do.

First, go into Programs and Features and remove any application you
don't think you need. Toshiba gave you a whole bunch of trialware and
programs that you likely don't care about.

Second, I would recommend installing startup control panel to allow
you to do some editing of the startup programs/keys. Find it here:
http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml. Once you run the install
program, you will have a simple icon in your control panel that you
can use.

After tuning my system, the only TOSHIBA specific modules I have
starting are:

HKCU - TOSCDSPD
HKLM - 00CrdMain, HSON, Smoothview, SynTPEnh, TPwrmain, cnFNcEnabler

I also left the ATI Start CCC program running.

Third, see the previous links in this thread and also this one for
some more general tuning information:
