New version of dotNet

I run Pro + SP2.

To fnd out what version of dotNet I have got, I used a utility called
DotNet VersionCheck from TMG Development.
http://www.tmgdevelopment.co.uk/versioncheck.htm

Is there an alternative more direct Microsoft approved way to check
for the version I have?

The utility I used suggested I had only version 1.1 (see output
results below).

Is dotNet 2.0 usually offered by the Windows update service at
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com? I ask for "custom" updates and I
take all the updates labelled as "High Priority" and usually most of
the "Optional Software" updates. But I don't seem to have dotNET
2.0.

Thank you for any help.

OK. Yes. I also see it today.

Guess it must have appeared in the updates list very recently.

Sorry for the false alarm! :-)

Under what circumstances would this update be necessary to install?
Thanks,
Bob

Bob,

"Necessary" would depend on your use of dotNet applications and if any you
run require 2.0.

If you are not changing anything else you do (using dotNet) - and you don't
have dotNet 2.0 now - logic states you do not *need* dotNet 2.0 yet.

The /easiest/ way is to simply look at the folder list contained at

%windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework

If you have .NET Framework v1.0 installed, you'll have a folder named
v1.0.3705

If you have .NET Framework v1.1 installed, you'll have a folder named
v1.1.4322

If you have .NET Framework v2.0 installed, you'll have a folder named
v2.0.50215 (beta)
or v2.0.xxx (where xxx > 50215) if you have the release version installed.

(I've not yet installed the release version, so I don't know the exact build
number.)
