New Vista Install - 8000FFFF Error

Just purchased this PC, and the auto install ran wthout issues. I went to
check for updates and the 8000FFFF error resulted. Looking at the different
forums, I went to uninstall the KB929777 but it was not there to uninstall.
I downloaded it from MS and copied it to my local drive and attempted to
run/install it but it didn't install.

Not sure how to eliminate this error for a newly install Vista without a
history of updates.
