New WGA Notifications KB905474: Already installed in 2006

Hi:

Just got WU for WGA Notifications KB905474. I already had that installled
back in 2006. I've temporarily placed this update on the "Dont show this
update".

Question:

I'm assuming this is an upgrade to that earlier WGA Notifications. But in
what way is it different? Are there any advantages in installing this, or is
it just as well that I continue ignore it by leaving it hidden?

Thanks in advance:

-eli

Did you check the KB article?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/905474

Previous releases
The previous sections describe features for the most recent release of the
WGA Notifications for Windows XP application. If you are running a previous
release of WGA Notifications, you may not have all the features that are
described in this article. However, you will receive detailed information
about the specific reasons for validation failure time every time you receive
a notification. In addition to receiving options when you log on, you will
also receive periodic notifications while you are logged in. To view the
options that are available or to learn more about how to obtain genuine
Microsoft Windows software, you can click the notification or the icon in the
notification area.

Thanks Taurian:

I thought perhaps a newer version of the WGA Notifications might entail less
"dialing home" to MS and thus shorter boot-up time. I see no mention of this
in that KB link u posted. So since I'm not getting any problematic
notifications, and passed the WGA test, I see no advanatage in installing
this upgrade of KB 905474.

Or am I missing something here?

It's all a matter of personal choice really. If you already installed the
previous version, why not update it to the newer version. Suggestion not a
recommendation.

future updates to WGA Notifications will be received automatically:
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/Abo...fications.aspx

Microsoft feels that that's a big benefit. Link above came from:
