Hi, since this november Microsoft forced an update of Windows live
messenger.
It also forces the update for Windows live mail. For some reason both
programs don't work.
Messenger will load up but as when I try to login the software freezes and I
have to shut down the
program with ALT+CTRL+DEL. Something simulair is happening with the mail
program.
It will load up fine but when it try's to download mail from the servers it
will stop and freeze the program. I tried it with my firewall turned off so
that cant be the thing.
Ive also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software however once
messenger is at 17% of uninstalling the windows live program will freeze as
well.
So I had everything removed with a program called Total Uninstall. Which
worked (good thing I backed up my emails prior though).
Then installed from scratch. However I still have the same problems.
Anyone have an idea of what is going on or how to fix it? Im kind of
clueless here.
Had to do a system restore to get the old version of windows live mail
running again which works flawless.

It could possibly be a number of things. What version of the .Net Framework
are you running? Might have a dll conflict. Which OS are you running? Are
there any Event Log (Under admin tools) messages associated with it?
From the information you've given it would be virtually impossible to
diagnose.

I guess I should have added that information.
Im running windows xp sp3 with the latest updates including the latest .NET
Framework.
I don't have any "admin tools" in my menu here but perhaps I don't know
where to look for that.
I am not running the updated version right now anymore as it will force a
update for my windows live mail as well and I can still use the old one to
get my emails.
However it gave me some sort of error once that said it was a unknown error
once I send the error report to microsoft.

<Snip>
By "admin tools", Colin Brown meant the "Administrative Tools" box on the
control panel. And, if you don't have that box, you have far worse problems
than just WLM.

Not everybody, though. I've installed Windows Live Messenger 2009 on
multiple computers without any problems. So it isn't a total failure.

Actually not. They patched a significant security hole.

How many is "SO many"?

It may not be. But it doesn't seem to afflict more than a few hundred.

I've got WLMessenger running on:

HP Pavilion 6745C, Windows XP Home Edition (Upgrade); SP3
HP Pavilion a1440n, Windows XP MCE 2005; SP3
Toshba Tecra M2-S410, Windows XP Professional; SP3
HP Pavilion m7590n, Windows 7 Home Premium (x64 Upgrade); SP0

Not a one has caused a problem; though I was wondering if the x64 (64-bit)
OS might have issues. It does not.
