Last friday I decided to update my Windows XP system. All I installed that
day was
Update for Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) 2.0 and WinHTTP
5.1 (KB842773).
Ever since then, when I connect to the Internet I am unable to open up any
program for about the first 2-5 minutes. My computer also seems to be slowing
down at times and sometimes even kicking me off my dial-up connection. On top
of that, my ping stability is less than optimal when playing games online.
Is my computer looking for the new SP2 update and failing or what is
happening??

*TAKE NOTE*
If I dont connect to the Internet, my computer runs just as it did previous
to last friday. Only when I connect to the Internet does the slowdown start.
Also, I dont have any viruses or worms.

Hey Sillbrink-
I'm having the same problem. I also installed BITS and KB842773. After that
when I try and play BattleField 1942 my ping is all over the place and I lose
connections all the time and get kicked off games. I have the automatic
updates turned off, but I think this is still causing a problem.

Please post back here if you find anything out.

Thanks,
