Hi,

I'm running XP Pro with SP2. Sitting in a LAN behind 2 firewalls arranged in
a DMZ (don't ask me what this is, but my technical guys have set it up for
me). None of the pc's on the network can download windows updates or office
updates. I have contacted MS but they (helpfully?!) suggest that the problem
lies with the firewall. I have spoken with my IT support and they say this is
not the case. The end result is that i still can't update our computers.

We get the error code 0x8024402F whenever we go onto the Windows Update
site. I've searched the Knowledge Base articles but this code doesn't appear.
Can anyone shed any light on this and suggest how i can cure this problem
please?

Regards
Mark

Make sure these services are not disabled
( use MSCONFIG to review or run SERVICES.MSC):

Background Intelligent Transfer Service(BITS)
Cryptographic Services
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
System Restore Service

From main Windows Start menu, select RUN, type in
CMD <Enter-key>

type in
net stop wuauserv <Enter-key>

Go to Windows Explorer.
Look on your system drive (usually C ) and look at the Windows folder name. Like Windows or WINNT.
Modify following as appropriate.
If your Windows folder is C:\Windows. Look at this folder
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

If you find files in there, delete them. That folder is where files are stored from W U downloads.

Go back to Command prompt window.
type in
net start wuauserv <Enter-key>

EXIT <Enter-key>
