New Windows update fails

Installed "new" Windows update; when running "check for updates" I get this:
Error number: 0x80240030
Turned off XP firewall and router firewall; tried both self-serve solution
on the site; nothing works.

Specifically, which "new" Windows update are you referring to ?

When searching for available updates on the Update site, you receive the
0x80240030 error.
