'Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested
page. You may find the following resources helpful in resolving the problem'

I am running xp home and have kept up to date with all updates until now.
Inet connection is up and all good.
Running sygate personal firewall, have tried disbaling... same results.

Any help appreciated.

Exactly the same thing has happened to me. I'm running Sygate's firewall too
and have also tried disabling but it made no difference. I've also tried the
proxy settings and hosts file fixes suggested by the troubleshooting guide.
Neither made any difference.

Can anyone help us?

I had the same problem. But found this helper posted several days ago by
David Herman a MVP

Please try the following:

Register MSXML3.dll
1. Click Start.
2. Choose Run.
3. In the Run box, type regsvr32 MSXML3.dll.
4. Click OK.

This worked for me and now I can see the updates. But, now the update says
I should install SP1 again and several other "critictal" updates that
probably already have been installed. I also noticed that I now have two
files of the Windows Update.log. One file is Windows Update.log - the other
is WindowsUpdate.log (without the space). Maybe Dave Herman will see this
and shed a little more light on this problem..

Hope this helps someone...

Gordy

I still have problems. The register MSXML3.dll does not work, nor does
reinstalling XML.
