hi

I'm wondering if Vista Business 32 bit has built in support for ftp?. I
have some files on a ftp server here and I want to transfer those files over
to my new laptop (vista business 32bit). So I hoped MS has embedded some
kind of software in vista that can use for this..

any suggestions?

You can use IE to do FTP:

Frankly, I've always felt that using a free third-party FTP client was
preferable, both in XP and Vista.

Some good ones are FileZilla, FTP Commander, and WS_FTP.

In XP you can also add an FTP site in Network Places. I am not sure, but I
think you can also do that in Vista, by right clicking in Computer. I
cannot check right now, as I only use Vista on my HTPC.

This is how to do it without extra software:

You can use Windows Explorer.

Just right click any blank area (under "Computer") and select ADD A
NETWORK LOCATION then simply follow the wizard to set up your FTP site.

It's a very lame FTP interface though with limited capabilities.

I highly recommend finding a copy of FileZilla 2.+ and installing
that. Avoid version 3.

I've had no problems at all with Filezilla 3. Why do you recommend
avoiding it?

Same here. I also run Filezilla 3 and it's been fine for me.
