The Newbie's Guide to Understanding MVPs and Fanboys

Welcome to the newsgroup. First, don't be offended by the term newbie.
It isn't a putdown and simply indicates somebody that's new and
probably doesn't understand the jargon. Everybody was a newbie once.
Trouble is a lot of people forget they too were once a newbie
themselves and they foolishly get a kick out of browbeating and
talking in a condescending way to people they think aren't up to
speed.

Q What is a MVP?

A According to Microsoft, It is suppose to stand for Most Valuable
Professional. The reality is it is just a Microsoft marketing tool
since they are too cheap to hire enough qualified employees to
actually give real support so they hand pick people they've seen
defending Microsoft's arrogance, blunders and mistakes. MVP's often
have no real technical knowledge or experience. They are NOT
required to pass any test or prove they know anything. However it
seems a loyalty oath is the main unspoken requirement, so soon
you'll come to understand a MVP is code for Microsoft butt kisser.

While there are some good, helpful, technically qualified MVPs,
rarely do any of the good ones post here since this newsgroup is a
cesspool ruined by likes of assorted hot heads and blowhards. Stick
around long enough and you'll discover who they are on your own.

Q What is fanboy?

A Someone desperately wishing Microsoft would pick them as a MVP,
but they are so dumb they are like Charlie Tuna and keep
getting rejected. Fanboys are loud, ignorant, crude, arrogant and
try to pick fights, love to pontificate, act as if they are the
ultimate authority on everything. Remember, it's a act to get
noticed by Microsoft so they too can display the useless MVP label.

Q Why don't Microsoft do something about the MVP program?

A Good question. It is obviously not well run. The fact is several
years ago for the same reasons you see now Microsoft was all set to
pull the plug on the MVP program due to many complaints from
customers that have had a belly full of abuse, getting mistreated by
MVPs and getting lame advice. At the last minute somebody in Redmond
decided not to kill the MVP program. Like many Microsoft decisions,
not a very smart one.

Q Why do MVPs and Fanboys act like they do?

A In the case of many MVPs the title clearly has gone to their heads.
Think back to your early school days. Remember how patrol boys, hall
monitors always thought they were better than everyone else?

The "adult" version of acting like an all knowing pompous jerk as
you often see as talking heads on cable TV is how most MVP's act.
They have a silly need to show off. They think they're all experts
when in fact it mostly is unfounded usually biased PERSONAL OPINIONS
they blubber about.

Both MVPs and Fanboys have pet peeves. They can't stand any other
OS even being mentioned. Discussions about Registry Cleaners, etc.
people having issues getting Vista to run correctly anything even
remotely being critical of Microsoft this group of clueless buffoons
respond like a pack of wolfs thrown some raw meat.

Q Why does it seem MVPs and Fanboys have a short fuse?

A Because they keep giving lame advice or are caught lying or
attempting to elevate their opinions to facts. Over time they
get frustrated. People that actually do have the knowledge they
pretend to have show them up so deep down being just little
boys that's the only way they can fight back; act like even
bigger jerks rather than admitting they were wrong which they
often are.

Q So does this newsgroup have any real value?

A If you can get past the noise. But the MVPs and fanboys, the
group you would think would want to be the most helpful and
understanding prefer to act out. They LOVE to act as Net Cops,
saying you didn't do enough research, you posted to the wrong
newsgroup, anything to imply you're a dummy, anything that in
their mind elevates them above everyone else. So basically it is a
zoo, so simply enjoy it for what this newsgroup is. If you are
looking for serious help there are many places way better then
here. It shouldn't be that way, but sadly it is.

The Newbie's Guide to Adam Albright :

Q. Who is Adam Albright ?

A. A crazed lunatic, with a personal vendetta against people who use
Vista...and don't whine enough about it.
If you don't have Vista issues, he will say you are lying and
blustering in defense of Microsoft.

Q. Why does he post anti-Microsoft rants in a Vista Newsgroup?

A. Good Question. It is thought that in his years of "captivity", medication
provided to him caused him to suffer from delusions.
The delusion most frequently suffered by the patient Albright is that
somehow only he knows what Operating System qualifies to be used by the
general public. Currently, his dosage is being increased....though initial
results show increased delusional behavior. Duct Tape is being considered
for next stage of treatment.

Q. Why don't the Authorities do something?

A. Current State and Federal law prohibits doing what needs to be done. But,
he is fun to play with....like a dog. Throw him a bone, and he'll get all
excited and chase it. But like a dog, he really can't comprehend complex
software...so he just barks alot.

Between you, alias, frank, and NoStop, the group would be a lot better
without any of you 4 here ever. Certainly would cut down on the noise
and OT posts.

Well sure Bozo. Lets make it so only blowhards like you, Jupiter,
Vista User, Dennis, et al and of course Frank can spew your sh*t all
over the place.

You know why you don't like me? Because I expose you for what your
really are and you don't like it.

I don't know if this is a post that I should answer given the answers you
received. But here goes.

A few years ago Microsoft was going to dump the MPV program. There was some
static over that decision, so the MPV program is still here.

The MPVs are a volunteer group the last I heard. My hats off to all the
MPVs. I have learned so much from them just reading the posts here, and I
look forward to most posts answering my questions. One or two answers seem
to be cranky answers, but who knows for sure. After all this is written
posting with no intended "voice" except to answer a Microsoft program issue.
99.99% are very helpful for new and not so new computer users.

If you really want extended professional FREE help with Microsft products,
do a google search for MPV web pages. Or just follow the links in sigs
posted in the Newsgroups.

THANK YOU, MPVs. [I wish you could hear my voice shouting the thank you!].
Maybe I am a fanboy wannabe. [only I am a female wannabe]

You just sound ignorant or you're an apple polisher if you're going to
claim you've only seen one or two cranky MVP posts. I've seen
hundreds, maybe thousands. So has everybody else. How could you have
missed them?

The fact is the MVP program is a joke and a shadow of what it once was
when it started many years ago. Now there are way too many blowhards
and prima donna types that use their MVP label to vigorously massage
their already bloated egos and use this newsgroup to pontificate their
narrow views. Some MVPs use this and other newsgroups to promote
themselves to hopefully make a buck from rubes.

P. T. Barnum was right. There's a sucker born every minute.

I have been self teaching myself computers out of Forums, Usenet
newsgroups and simply looking it up on a Google search. After over
seven years in Usenet I can tell you that every newsgroup has it
resident trolls and resident experts.I have learned from them all. If
you use an effective news reader you can easily kill file
objectionable posters. Usenet is a worldwide forum. Civility and
professionalism is greatly appreciated. But you are going to get
flamed, called a troll, criticized for your spelling and grammar etc.
It is all part of the scene.

Posting helps my tying, English grammar skills and makes me use
the computer better. Having said that Vista is a piece of junk. I wish
I had never got it. I am stuck with it for the short term. Given the
money I will be buying a new computer, a Dell with Lunix. In the mean
time I will learn what I can about Vista, so start posting away.

Yesterday I was reading a good article about Tor from apas. Today
I am reading up on Ture Crypt and how to use it. A little bit everyday
and over time you become the expert yourself. Can you read my IP#?
