or is it possible that the Live Mail news-reader does NOT do
'threading'? So that, to delete a thread of 44 articles/headers
on a single Subject, I can't just delete the whole thread in one action,
and I've got to select the individual headers and delete them individually.
And having to see all the same header-Subjects, taking up screen space,
instead of them being combined into ONE entry [which can be expanded
as required] is also stupid.
What am I doing wrong ?

Yes, that irritates me, too. But whining does me no good, so I learn to
live with it...
In WLM 2011 (I've forgotten if it's the same in WLM 2009), click the
triangle in front of the first message in the thread. Then use the familiar
technique: Click the first message in the thread, then hold <Shift> while
you click the last message in the thread, then press <Delete>.
As you've learned, pressing <Delete> on the first message, even when the
thread is collapsed, deletes only that first message, leaving the rest of
the thread intact. Same thing happens when we try to Move the whole thread,
or mark it all as Junk. :>(
The main problem with WLM is that the people in Microsoft who write the
program don't actually use it every day - and neither to their bosses. :>(
