NIC Teaming in SBS 2008

Does SBS 2008 standard (or premium) support NIC teaming? Yes or No! I intend
to install SBS 2008, create the team and then run the ICW. If this is going
to work then great. I know it doesn twork on SBS2003 as it complains there
are too many NICs.

Thanks!

Dominic,

SBS 2008 does not support multiple NICs. That's the simple statement. Not as
teaming, not as routing, not as an Internet firewall server. The SBS 2008
Setup generally has trouble with multiple NICs or teaming, and the network
related wizards fail on teaming NICs.

MS recommends not using NIC teaming on an SBS 2008 for many reasons, but I'm
sure someone is going to suggest "just configure your server with one NIC to
run all the wizards and then configure teaming after that". I can't endorse
that idea, even if it may work for some people, it's probably better to
stick with one 1- Gbit NIC as your standard operation so that you can use
the SBS features and support from MS as intended.

Thanks of rthe reply. How about this statement on here though...

' Does Windows Small Business Server 2008 support two network cards?

One NIC is recommended and supported on the Standard Edition server. If you
have more than one NIC on the first server, then when the network wizards are
run the additional NICs are disabled. Multiple NICs are an advanced scenario;
if you want to use multiple NICs you should do so on the Premium Edition
server.'

This sort of implies that multiple NICs is support on Premium. It just
doesn't mention how many NICs, if you can use the wizards, why only on
Premium edition or anything about Teaming support.

Dominic,

I think you are not interpreting that FAQ correctly.

SBS 2008 Standard Edition is a single server package, just as has always
been the design of SBS.

SBS 2008 Premium Edition is a TWO SERVER LICENSE. That FAQ is telling ou to
build the SECOND server, the so called Premium Server as multi-NIC or as is
implied "high performance networking" on the machine that has no SBS wizards
installed. The 2nd server is standard windows server, you do anything you
want on it.

They are not suggesting that by purchasing the Premium edition this in any
way changes the configuration constraints or wizard behavior of the SBS
server loaded with the unique SBS server features, wizards, console,
Exchange, etc.
