I'm using a News (NNTP)-account. When replying to a thread, a "mark" (">") is
supposed to be be put in front of every line in the previous message(s). This
">" does however not appear.
I've ´ticked the "Options", "Send", "Plain text settings" "Indent the
original text with ´>´ when replying or forwarding" checkbox.

That's a known bug in the beta.

Is it a repeat of the Windows Mail problem that when
replying to a message that arrived with a quoted printable
type of format, Windows Mail did not recognize the
need to indent anything from the message were replying
to and add the ">" characters?

Or is it a more general problem with replying to other
types of messages as well?

There is a known but reported with the current beta version of WLM. It
appears to be unrelated to the WM issue you mention.
