What can be done when a PC has no access to antivirus site after a virus
attack? It is impossible to update antivirus definitions (Norton.)

Thanks.

This is not the right place for this post.

However, try to find out which virus you have and download
the removal tool into a safe PC. Then just run it and
clean yours. Symantec, McAfee, Panda, Grisoft, they all
offer removal tools.

Use more than one tool if possible

Hi

Your hosts file could be compromised, edit the following file
with Notepad:

Win95/98/ME: %windir%\hosts
Windows NT/2000/XP: %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

If there is anything within the file, remove it (the only line that
usually is in there is "127.0.0.1 localhost" in addition to
the comment lines at the top).

Be sure to go to the end of the file, sometimes the bad
app have added a lot of blank lines before the host entries
added to the file.

Could be your HOSTS file in system32\drivers\etc folder has been
tampered with.
Open the HOSTS file and see if it contains anything more than:
__________________________________________________ __________
# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost
__________________________________________________ _______________

If so remove all below that and save changes and exit.
You should then be able to get to the sites you need.
Also go here and get the HOSTS file we all should have:

Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File.

1) After you have cleared your PC (many of the removal
tools for specific type of pests will check and repair
HOSTS) from viruses try to use another browser, e.g. Opera
to see if you can access those sites. Most of the AV
programs can connect to their websites for direct
updating. Does this work?

2) Check IE Restricted Sites (Tools > Internet Options >
Restricted Sites) to see if you don't have antivirus sites
in there. This is valid if you are using IE. Check HOSTS
as other people already commented.
