No Action, No Error

While SP2 really slowed down this laptop terribly (only three years old and I
am thinking about trashing it) I was able to set up the "Upgrades" to work
with my symantec firwall and my other more common programs all appear to be
working.

Automatic up date tells me I need two more updates both are Microsoft .NET
patches. .NET 1.0 Framework Service pack 3 and .NET Framework Service pack 1.

While the scan happens and install begins, thats it. It sits on the install
bar which shows no progress, ne errors. I have given it a weekend to happen,
it didnt. The memory usage goes up the CPU drops to nothing in less then a
minute.

Any suggestions?
