I have just got a new Sony laptop with an inbuilt webcam using Vista. I
downloaded msn live messenger 8.1 but during video calls there is no audio.
The speaker and microphone volume sliders (next to the webcam pictures of me
and the other party)are set down to zero and are stuck. I cant move them! I
used the video call on my old laptop with XP and the sliders should become
green and are able to be adjusted up and down. But now they are stuck!
I have done the messenger audio and video setup and everything is fine.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Welcome to the club, until Microsoft fixes Vista, you can use Skype or
SightSpeed, you should find both of these work for you. They work for me
under Vista.

I posted this workaround a week or so ago - but didn't hear a reply if it
always works:-

"I had the same problem but I did find a work around elsewhere. If you start
a voice call and then after that has established you can click on the small
webcam icons under the personal pictures to start the video connection, you
should then get both audio and video. Like you, if I just choose video call
all I get is video. You will probably need to manually start both cameras -
it worked for me but the audio is still somewhat flakey and liable to
overload."
