No cd or dvd playing

I cannot get the optical drive to recognize either CDs or DVDs. Cannot play
computer manufacture restoration cd either.
media player does play from internet and from previously recorded cds. D I
need a new optical drive...how can I check?

Wait, so personally recorded CDs still work in the CD drive, but normal CDs
don't... ?! Given that problem description, I would believe that something
is wonky with the laser(?) and that you might indeed want a new drive.
