No CD in My Computer or Device Manager after SP2

It seems that my cd\dvd has disappeared from My Computer and Device Manager
after SP2 install. The drive still spins and the light flashes after I insert
a CD but I have no way of getting to the nfo. I contacted HP and after going
thru all of their suggestions, nothing helped. They said get a new cd drive!
1 year old HP ze4420us notebook.
