Greetings Peter,
The reason you're seeing this is because the contact in question is using a client which does
not comply to the Messenger protocol correctly. In other words, a third-party client
(Pidgin, Adium, Trillian, etc.) which isn't sending the correct font header in its messages
to you.
When no [correct] font header is sent, Messenger defaults to MS Sans Serif raster font which
is not capable of ClearType.
In some cases I've worked with my contacts to get a font selected which solves the issue or
Messenger Plus Live (
www.msghelp.net) contains an 'Override Contact's Font' option which also
can assist here.
