I have live messenger 8.1 and the same problem as Raevens W.: I cannot start
conversations with my contacts and my contacts cannot start a conversation
with me - but they get no failuremessage; for them I just don't seem to react!
This problem occured after running the forced upgrade. By searching for a
solution, I found out that in "extra - options - connection" stands: "You
have currently no connection with .NET messenger service." So that could be
the reason why no conversation is possible, but I still don't know the
solution.
Please help, because this way live messenger is useless.

Greetings Danny,

Firstly try installing Live Messenger 8.5 has its connectivity is far superior to 8.1:

Secondly, are you using any third party firewall software applications such as ZoneAlarm,
Norton Internet Security, etc.? If so, completely uninstall them for the time being and see
if your problem is resolved. If it is, reinstall them.
