I am set up for automatic updates but there hasn't been anything. When i
try to do an express it just goes and goes. I thought that if I tried
Windows live one care when it did the tune up it would find the critical
updates. well 5 hours later still nothing 0%. Again today it tried to run
the tune up and it is stil running after 11 hours 0%. I thought that maybe
it would take awhile because of the time frame from the last updates but this
is ridiculous. Please someone help with this problem. I want my updates to
be done and the programs running under current updates.

Just out of interest. What version of Windows are you using?

Hi cecieminpin,

You can try kb/ 943144 OR Dial-a-Fix

Ignore the title - Updates are not installed successfully from Windows
Update, from
Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows
XP installation
<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144>

Go here and read all the replies and what to do...
<http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?pg=1&p=1&tid=fb171ac4-a746-45ae-b6e1-35f68f2ad7fc&dg=microsoft.public.windows.vista.sec urity&cat=en_US_9CA88DDB-D18D-FA0E-A366-6E527B0FBA67&lang=en&cr=US&sloc=en-us>

Install the Dial-a-Fix, ran it and reboot.

You didn't say, or at least it's not clear, whether you tried getting the
updates using Internet Explorer, by going here:

<http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/>

Some new ActiveX software has to be installed on XP before your computer can
be scanned. Just follow the prompts to do so, but it should then list and
download the same updates, and install them, as those you see in the taskbar
notification. If going to the site is successful, keep going back until
there are no more critical updates to install.

http://www.microsoft.com/communities...2-9b408678b645

Good luck

forever. I know it took awhile to try this because i could not find my
original post. I wish I knew what I can do. I have tried getting critical
updates from any which way i can.

Tip: Temporarily disable real-time protection by your anti-virus and/or
anti-spyware applications (e.g., CounterSpy, Spysweeper, Spybot Tea Timer,
AVG Anti-Spyware) and/or any third-party firewall (e.g., ZA) before
attempting to install the update(s). If you disable the third-party
firewall, make certain that you enable the Windows Firewall!

3a. Check Windowsupdate.log (%windir%\Windowsupdate.log) for errors
associated with the download/install.

antispyware running. When I try to check for updates all it does is run and
run there are no error messages. Should i send the the update log. just dont
know what to do. I feel like the dumbest person around

The machine has no active anti-virus protection now and it hasn't in the
past?

I did not mean there is no active anti-virus protection I meant that i turned
off all firewalls. I do not know if Windows live one care has any anti
virus. I have tried to run the express and the custom and it still just runs
and runs. I have tried some of the previous suggestions and still the same
results. I did pull up the Windows update log and tried to look through it
but did not see any error messages. I just cancel because it just runs and
runs forever.
