I am not sure about this but......I think my drives quit working after I
installed some updates after the initial SP2. Luckily I was able to system
restore and regain my damn cd and DVD drive. I have a Dell - and after
talkling to Dell Support - was informed that they DO NOT reccomend installing
SP2 at this time because of all the problems they are experiencing due to
MICROSOFT'S BIG HELP. I was also informed that if system restore could not
fix my problem the only other option was to reformat. I had to turn system
restore off after installing SP2 due to a virus removal - so going back was
not an option for me. I am stuck in SP2 land with all its wonderful crap.
If you can get your computer where it is working fine - turn off automatic
updates and do no more updates until Microsoft somehow pulls their head out
of their arse.
