No display on wake up

Here is my current situation. I'm using vista home premium 32bit on a
dell dimentions e521 desktop computer. When I wake the computer all I
get on the screen is a coloured line on the top of the lcd monitor.
Nothing else. This has only happened when I recieved the latest
downloads [ Oct 24 08]. Before this I have had no problems what so ever.
I went into the bios setup and had to change the power management for
the sleep cycle. Before this the bios was setup were the computer
completely shutdown. Now in this setup the compter fan is still on and
everything is a sleep. In this mode [or setup] there is no line on the
top of the screen and the picture comes up perfect when I wake the
computer up. Unfortunately I have had to turn the computer off so as to
save the fan from wearing itself out.
I'm wondering is there anyway I can remove the Oct 24 08 updates? or is
there something I can do in the Vista OS to rectify this issue?

Hi,

Updates are removed via the Control Panel/Programs and Features under Tasks
in the left column. Click on "View installed updates" to begin. Chances are
that one of them disagrees with or conflicts with your video drivers. Before
removing an update, most of which are important, you might want to see if
your video adapter manufacturer (not Dell, but the actual card maker) has an
updated set of drivers and supporting software.

I agree with Rick, but you can check to see if a BIOS update is available
for your MOBO. One of my computers also leaves the fan on using the POS
selection. If you still want to remove the update, control panel, uninstall
a program, left side/view installed updates - you can uninstall from there.

First of all there is no bios update for this Dell computer. It already
came with the latest bios version 1.1.11.
Second I found what was causing the computer to have no display after
it was awaken. It was the display adapter driver that was causing all
the problems. The nividia geforce 6150le that vista install's is OK, but
the one that windows update downloads is the problem one. You will know
which one is the OK one by the MS Corp - WDDM at the end of the name.
All I did after that was to go back into the bios setup and reset the
power management ---> suspend mode back to S3 setting. Now it works like
a charm...
