No download updates possible

Found that BITS cannot start. Explored error 80246008 and 8007005 (register).
Didn't solve the problem. Restored system to a date when downloading was
succesful. Still no succes, believe BITS is still the problem, will not
start. Reinstalled Windows XP, no improvement. Found on download site BITS
new version KB842773, downloaded and installed, no error message. BITS still
not able to start and not able to downlaod from Windows Update site. Because
reinstallement of Windows XP many updates on the site to install, can't get
to it. Have 3 additonal machines on LAN with XP, no problems there.

Try deleting the "downloader\" directory and "qmgr0.dat"
and "qmgr1.dat" files BTW, Don't delete the "network\"
directory

Also network could be missing

Try start bits
net start bits

I think my BITS problem is related to permissions as describes in a thread
from 11/16/2004. Unfortunately, I followed the advice below in desperation
before I came across the other info. Now I can't even get into BITS in
services.msc. I get the message "Unable to open service Background
Intelligent Transfer Service for reading on local computer. Error 5 Access
Denied."

Anyone have any thoughts on fixing that. . .?
