The SoftwareDistribution folder contains information used by Windows Update
or Microsoft Update and is the storage location of updates downloaded via WU
or MU. After you renamed the folder, WU or MU rebuilt a "fresh" folder, one
that does not contain previous downloads from the site, therefore there is
no update history listing. How data stored in this folder became corrupted,
I do not know.
