The most recent microsoft update causes IE 7 to not be able to display any
pages even though the ping test comes back good and I can still connect to
internet wirelessly via my PDA or laptop. System restore to 1/16/2007 fixes
the issue...any ideas???

I have the same issue. IE7 will not display a single web page after updates.
Generic error about no connection to the internet. But the internet is
fine. Using another pc without IE7 and same updates to write this. Please
post and work arounds. Using Trend Micro PCcillin 2007 for firewall and
virus. Must have something to do with firewall?

It is probably related to PCCillin 2007. Also directly related to IE explorer
Security update KB928090 specifically. I haven't figured the solution. I am
neurotic and working on it, however:-)

I have the same problem. I have restored my computer 4 times now and to be
honest am quite sick of it. I think the only option is to install each
update individually to find out which update is causing this. I will check
the one you state dave to see whether this is the problem and not install it.
I did install KB928090 and it still appears to be working ok at the moment,
but there were another 15 that I have not downloaded yet. I will let you
know the result.....

Sounds like a misconfigured firewall.
E.g. if a firewall knows details about the module (not just the module's
name) and those details have changed, it might disallow outbound
connections being attempted by the updated module.

I think I read that iexplore.exe has changed? ; )

Have you tried running IE7 with all the add-ons disabled?

Don't think it's firewall related. My fix, I uninstalled IE7. Everything
working without any changes to anything else. IE7 is evil! I can live
without it for now.

i can't belive after two hours I just figured this out - especially as I
think the same thing happened to me last time (am I dumb or what?)

I use PCillin and it seems that after the latest update the firewall setting
gets a bit screwed up. Go into the Firewall settings and go to "edit" the
connection. Look at the exceptions list. In mine under the description for
Internet Explorer the setting had reverted to "deny" and you need to change
it to back to "accept"
After that everything seems to work fine - except I have lost two hours of
my life that I will never get back!

I Still don't know what the problem is. however, i have restored yet again
and have now installed each update individually (all 17 of them) to find out
which one is causing the problem. Result:-

it was KB928255 Security for windows XP.

I uninstalled it, updated the rest of the updates and thought I would try it
again as everything else is working fine. I have now updated the above and
can you believe it, everything is ok. So now, I am not sure!!!! maybe try
it this way like I have, (if you have 5 or so hours to spare) ridiculous.

Hope this helps. I am still none the wiser
