I Still don't know what the problem is. however, i have restored yet again
and have now installed each update individually (all 17 of them) to find out
which one is causing the problem. Result:-
it was KB928255 Security for windows XP.
I uninstalled it, updated the rest of the updates and thought I would try it
again as everything else is working fine. I have now updated the above and
can you believe it, everything is ok. So now, I am not sure!!!! maybe try
it this way like I have, (if you have 5 or so hours to spare) ridiculous.
Hope this helps. I am still none the wiser
