I have read the thread but I don't see how it pertains to my problem. Maybe I
missed something
I have AU set to "Notify me but don't automatically download or install
them". The yellow AU icon appears when updates are available for download but
it does not appear when the updates are downloaded and ready to install. In
order to install I have to do a reboot which is what I don't wish to do. How
do I get the AU icon to appear when the downloaded updates are ready to
install?
The reason I ask the above question is I have 6 machines all configured to
"Notify me but don't automatically download or install them". For four of
these machines where I did a clean install of XP the AU icon appears when the
updates have been downloaded and are ready to install. The other two machines
are used machines and I didn't install XP. On these machines the AU icon only
appears when there updates ready to download but it does not reappear when
the updates are ready to install. The only time I see updates are ready to
install is when the machine is being shutdown. Rather annoying
