I have a new Gateway FX530 with Windows Vista Home Premium. I can sleep the
computer fine, and it wakes up fine, except upon waking up I no longer have
an internet connection. Any ideas to help?

I have comcast cable internet connected to a D-Link router.

Thanks!

Also, I have installed Microsoft's Vista Update KB938979 and it has not
helped.

Are you using a wireless router and a usb wireless network card?

Try this update. Please report back.

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;936003

Microsoft has released a cumulative update rollup for Windows Vista. This rollup helps
establish a quality baseline for the USB core components on the Windows Vista operating system.
This rollup supersedes previously-released USB fixes and contains additional high-applicability
USB fixes.

No wireless card, my PC is connected to the D-Link Router via Ethernet cable.

The link you provided has information on the cumulative update rollup, but
no download links. Do I have to download each update that is listed on that
page individually?

Thanks.

Steve,

Go the the link below. Put in the KB article number 936003
Give them a valid email address. They will email you back
in a couple of hours, at most. Follow the instructions in the email.
Oh, and do me a favor, please. When replying to a post, leave some
of the post intact. Thanks.

Thanks again. I guess I know less about this than I thought. I'm not sure
if I have a x64 or x86 system. I have Vista Home Premium running on a
Gateway 32 bit with an Intel E6600 processor...?

32bit = x86

Unfortunately that update did not work. I received and installed 936003. I
restarted the computer, opened a web browser and then put the computer to
sleep. However, the blue power button on the front of the Gateway (which
normally blinks in sleep mode) stayed lit, the screen powered down, but the
computer was still humming (fan or disc). It would not wake up from the
"sleep" either, I had to do a hard power down...

*** Okay, the sleep has worked on a few more tries, but upon resuming from
sleep I still have no internet connection... And network magic cannot
"repair" it without restarting the computer...

TRY THIS

Update for Windows Vista (KB938979)
• You experience a long delay when you try to exit the Photos screen
saver.
• A memory leak occurs when you use the Windows Energy screen saver.
• If User Account Control is disabled on the computer, you cannot
install a network printer successfully. This problem occurs if the
network printer is hosted by a Windows XP-based or a Windows Server
2003-based computer.
• When you write data to an AVI file by using the AVIStreamWrite
function, the file header of the AVI file is corrupted.
• When you copy or move a large file, the "estimated time remaining"
takes a long time to be calculated and displayed.
• After you resume the computer from hibernation, it takes a long time
to display the logon screen.
• When you synchronize an offline file to a server, the offline file is
corrupted.
• If you edit an image file that uses the RAW image format, data loss
occurs in the image file. This problem occurs if the RAW image is from
any of the following digital SLR camera models:
• Canon EOS 1D
• Canon EOS 1DS
For more information, click the following article number to view the
article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
932988 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932988/) Files from a Canon EOD
1D or 1DS camera may be corrupted after you use Windows Photo Gallery,
Windows Live Photo Gallery, or Windows Explorer to edit the file
metadata in Windows Vista or in Windows XP Service Pack 2
• After you resume the computer from hibernation, the computer loses
its default gateway address.
• Poor memory management performance occurs.

I was JUST passing and thought i might give you this
check it out if you got time
also I got this from the fact you had your problem I when looking for
an answer.
GET IT<I WENT LOOKING anyway ,I hope it helps
