Want free music? Kewlsounds.com internet radio. Playing 24/7 tunez, requets
for Live DJs and more!

Any fix for this?! As alot of people have had the same, now its my turn.
Basically, i try to sign in to my email account on WLM and it gives me an
error that the service is down...
I have tried everything i can think of. Reset the Hosts file, reset PC,
Reinstalled WLM, Uninstalled WLM and Installed again. Done all windows
updates. Nothing works.

I can sign in fine with that email using Web messenger... and i can sign in
to any other email address using WLM. Just not the one i use!!

ANy Suggestions? I'm slightly ****ed now.

Same for me, after installing the update a few days ago, i'm not able to sign
in any more. Webmessenger works fine. I have disabled the firewall and tried
all of the possible fixes i could find on this forum. Everything was fine
before i installed the upgrade. Please help. (Error code: 80072efd)

Greetings,

Can you describe any error codes you're getting?

However, here are some suggestions you should check/try if you haven't already.

1. If you haven't done so already, upgrade to the latest version of MSN Messenger:
http://messenger.msn.com/download
2. The date on your computer needs to be set properly -- double click the clock verify that
the time and date are set.
3. If your password information is not saved, verify that you are typing it in with the
correct case (uppercase or lowercase).
4. Change your password @ https://login.passport.com/ChangePW.srf to
something smaller (under 10-12 characters), then try signing in again.
5. If you use a firewall (like ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security etc. ), it's possible
that Messenger doesn't have the correct rights to access the Internet, especially since you
upgraded. You may need to re/add Messenger to the allowed list of programs in your firewall
if this is the case.
6. If you disabled your firewall in the past, it still may be blocking Messenger -- try
restarting it and see if that helps the situation. You also might try uninstalling an
installed firewall, to verify that it isn't causing a problem (even if it is disabled).
7. Clear your IE cache and cookies -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then
Internet Options, then click the Delete Files button, and when that's complete click the
Delete Cookies button.
8. Check your IE Security settings -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then
Internet Options, then Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section, and verify that "Check
for server certificate revocation" is unchecked. Also verify that 'Use SSL 2.0' and Use SSL
3.0' is checked, then click OK.
9. Click Start, then Run, and enter the following:
regsvr32 softpub.dll
then click OK
and do the same for the following:
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll

Click "Tools" and then "options" on your main window. In the options screen
click "Connection" in the list to the left. Next, click the "Advanced
Settings..." button. If you (likely) do not use a proxy server, try
unchecking all the checkboxes except the one labeled TCP and see if you can
connect now. (You might have to fully close and start Messenger again before
retrying to connect)
If you are on a large network, the network administrator can probably tell
you if you should have proxy settings in Messenger.

a.. In Internet Explorer: click Tools, then Internet Options, select the
"connections" tab. Try unchecking (if checked) "Use a proxy server for LAN"
and check "Automatically detect settings.". This should enable both Internet
Explorer and MSN Messenger to automatically find the best way to connect to
the Internet.

Thanks all for the replies.

Sean - I only have a very small network (2pc's connecting to a router), not
using proxies.
Before anyone says, the router does have a firewall, but is not blocking
anything.
I had removed localhost from one of the boxes in the Advanced section, this
then made WLM Crash to send an error report (another?!). Sent that,
restarted WLM, and still get the same problem.

Jonathan - Everything you have said has been done as i found it in another
post, yet still did not work.
The error code i am getting is 80004005 - Service unavailable.

As far as i have heard, i have the latest version (8.0.0.792) as i
downloaded that from get.live.com yesturday whilst trying to figure it out
myself.

We're you all able to sign in with WLM beta, just not the final? Might be
that you need to register your hotmail account as a live account. I also
think Microsoft is still updating things from the private beta. When WLM was
in private beta you had to be approved to use it. This might explain why
you can sign into MSN 7.5 and web messenger but not WLM 8.0.0792.00

Hi,

"Live" account? You don't need to registry anything, all Passports (or Windows Live IDs
depending on what it's being called this week) can sign into WLM. This is not a server-side
problem.

Hi,

Which post were you following? The 80004005 code usually indicates that part of your
Messenger client cache may be corrupted.

To attempt to fix, close down Messenger if it's running, click Start, then Run, and type the
following:
%userprofile%\contacts
and click OK.

If nothing appears in the folder, click the Tools menu, then Options, then View tab, click
'Show hidden files or folders' and click OK. Once you are able to see the folders,
right-click the one that corresponds to your Passport and choose Delete.

Next, click Start, then Run, and type the following:
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts

Then remove the corresponding folder again in this folder.

Then restart Messenger and try signing in again.

Thanks for the replies.

Jonathen - Yes, it was deffinetly (However its spelt lol) the error code i
gave. Error code was at the bottom corner of the error windows, which was
saying that the service is unavailable.
After doing what you said, i have now, FINALLY, been able to get back into
my account

Thanks for the help! Now for me to pass this on to everyone else whos had
the same problem!

Thanks again everyone who answered!

Dan.

P.S. victoria, I had the WLM BETA since it first came out for invitations,
never had this problem, infact i never had any problems except a few bugs
which we're eventually fixed. Yes, that means following the ugly themes that
it used to be

Hi Dan,

You're very welcome! Some of the prior releases were a bit ugly, but I admit, they grew on
me (like the original green one).
