From the Windows Help, it says hibernation is upgraded to Hybrid Sleep in
Power Management setting, but i cant see any setting that allows me to turn
off my PC and unplug the socket.

Hybrid sleep is a combination of both sleep and hibernation. When the
computer goes to sleep your system state is contained in the RAM but is also
written to the hibernation file. If there is no power outage, the computer
starts by using the information contained in the RAM. If the power fails,
the system will startup using that which is in the hibernation file.

Do you have hiberfil.sys in the root of drive C:? If you do you should be
good to go.

BTW: I wrote this response, shutdown the computer and then turned off the
power to the mains. Upon restarting the computer DID resume from hibernation
with the above part of the response intact.

Hibernation in Vista is the same as it is in Windows XP. Hybrid sleep is
actually a variation of sleep, not hibernation. Hybrid sleep combines
hibernation and sleep. For example, if my notebook is plugged in, sleep
simply enters the low power state in which memory is retained. If my
notebook is not plugged in, sleep puts the computer into hybrid sleep if
this is enabled in the sleep section of the advanced settings in power
options- the contents of memory are written to disk as they would be in
hibernation and then the computer enters standard sleep mode. If for any
reason the computer actually shuts down during hybrid sleep - that is, no
power to retain the memory, the state of running programs will be restored
to memory from disk , as would happen when the computer comes out of
hibernation. Be aware that hibernation and hybrid sleep may not be available
after running Disk Cleanup - see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928897.

Just to be pedantic, isn't the term 'sleep' new to Vista? My XP machine
uses the term 'stand by' throughout, not 'sleep'.
In fact 'hybrid sleep' doesn't actually exist - the term isn't used anywhere
in Vista, as far as I know.

Vista 'sleep' is a combination of the old 'standby' and 'hibernate'.

Yes, Vista's sleep is XP's standby. Search for "hybrid sleep" in Vista's
Help and Support. Look specifically at "What happened to standby and
hibernate".
Vista's sleep is not a combination of XP's standby and hibernate; hybrid
sleep is.

Thanks for all the reply. But i dont see hibrid sleep is usefull to me at
all.
I will only need to shutdown the pc and unplug everything, and turn it on
when i need and get back where i stop.

Only xp hibernate fits my needs.

p/s: those vista "supporters" here pls dont condemn me, it is my habit and
nature of work.

No, you've misunderstood. Vista's hybrid sleep does ALL that XP's hibernate
does, but IN ADDITION allows an even faster start up if you don't actually
unplug the power.

Then can u teach me how to change the setting?
I dont want the sleep function to wait certain time to go to sleep mode.
Wat i need is once i MANUALLY "hibernate" it, the system will imediately
shutdown in hibernation mode and i can unplug the power.

Click Start. Click Control Panel. Click System and Maintenance. Click Power
Options. In the left panel, click Choose what the power buttons do.
In the same window, you may also click on Change plan settings for the three
power plans to change things like the times when things happen.
