no mouse, no keyboard and bsod after starting up

ok, so i have a lenovo x61t running vista 64 and after a reboot, i no
have no keybord, no mouse, the touchscreen doesnt work, the table
doesnt work, and if i plug in a keyboard or mouse, those dont wor
either. to make things more fun, i get a blue screen of death abou
30-60 seconds after it boots up to the desktop.

im dual booting with ubuntu, and everything works fine there, so i kno
there are no hardware problems. even in safe mode (command prompt
networking and normal) the mouse and keyboard dont work.

complicating things even more (as if they werent complicated enough)
there is no cd drive in this computer, so booting the dvd and repairin
isnt really a good option (although i may have to go buy one to fix it)


the only thing i can think of as a cause is that i was playing aroun
with trying to get the ps3 controller to work before i tried to reboot
so i was messing with things like libusb but it never installed, so
didnt think it did anything.

anybody have any ideas?

It sounds like missing/bad drivers. You will need to get an optical drive. A
new Lenovo should be able to boot from a USB optical drive so that's an
option for you.

You'll need to boot with the Vista DVD and do a System Restore to when
things worked.

Don't Panic!

well, i guess my question was a bit too specific, i couldnt think of an
answer either, so i went and just bought an external drive (for as much
as i love installing new operating systems, i really should have one)
and ill try a repair from the vista disk. i just wish the external
drives were similar in price to the internal equivilant .

thanks to those of you who at least thought about my problem and like
me just couldnt come up with a solution

I am having similiar prob. I was trying to hook up my front usb cas
panel and tried using a keyboard to test it. Apparantly, vista decide
that I now wanted to use that keyboard and uninstalled my lase
Microsoft board. Vista isn't recognizing the keyboard so I can't ente
BIOS or log on or anything. I bought a wired vista compatible kb and a
going to see if I can't get something going.
Worse yet, my dvd rom is the second boot device, so it boots from th
hard drive, and without a kb I can't tell it to boot from dvd. Ever fee
like you are in an eternal vortex of frustration? Upside, this lesso
will be learned the first time. (LOL)

My question would be how do you access your computer without an inpu
device

OP, you could use f8 to startup to last known good configuration. Might
be a fix.

You definitely are in a bad spot. How about trying a ps2 keyboard and
mouse?

This appears to be a problem with your BIOS. Vista is not causing the
problem since it doesn't start loading until after the BIOS completes
its start up routine. Since the BIOS isn't recognizing the keyboard at
start up you could try resetting it using whatever method is recommended
by your board manufacturer. If you need additional help with this please
identify your motherboard and system components. Or, you can try going
to the manufacturer's web site and looking for info there.

That's usually the case with USB devices.

They won't usually work until the Windows driver is loaded, which of course,
if you want to get into the BIOS is not loaded at that point.

You'd need a PS/2 (round connector) type keyboard.

yea, the problem with that is that it's a laptop, so only usb and
firewire ports, so it wouldnt be an option.

but i didnt have the patience to try to find a solution (it's a week
away from my last finals week ever). so i've just reformatted.

Okay, first: thanks for all of the input. I bought a kensington wire
keyboard and am up and running. I am 99% sure that the usb root hu
connection fried my laser hub for my kb and my flash drive.

USB flash drive worked a few days ago in laptop and on back of m
computer

Keyboard worked until I hooked it up to the USB expansion slot

Now flash drive doesn't show up, and Microsoft keyboard is no
recognized, uninstalled software, reinstalled, used PS2 and US
separately and PS2 and USB together, searched for new hardware, replace
batteries, computer states it's working fine, but the device manage
screen just flashes occasionally while the in the notification bar, a
icon shows it is searching to update software, manually updated driver
from my computer for keyboard and from internet, it's up to date

I have ordered a new one and will find out for sure in a couple o
days

I am using an EVGA 750i FTW mobo, USB on-chip enabled; set to v1.1 +
2.0, all other USB BIOS set to enable and ISO queue

Am in touch with Apevia and EVGA to troubleshoot
