Greetings Bob,

This feature was removed in Windows Live Messenger from the non-details view. To get it
back, you'll have to turn the details view on.

You can do so by opening the main contact list, then click the "Sort your contacts" icon
which looks like two arrows to the right of the 'Find a contact or number' field. Then
choose Show Contacts' Details and you should have them.

hallelujah! thanks Jonathan, that worked for me. Now... next
complaint/question, why are the pictures so enormous? On the older version I
could see alot more contacts in the main list, now I can only see 5 or 6. I
poked around but can't see any settings to change the size.

Thank you Jonathan, that worked great! (this should be in the help section of
messenger too) but I also agree with the next post-how do we get the pictures
small again so I can see all my contacts on one list like before?

Hi,

I'm afraid it's that size when you're in details view. There are no other options sadly.

Apparently it was deemed that display pictures in the smaller view were too small to be
useful (which I highly disagree with).

Yes, I think it's the other way around the detailed view is too big to
be useful

Funny how this topic pops up again with the forced upgrade, never
understood why they removed the option with small icons though.

Hi,

I admit I've gotten used to just typing in who I want as opposed to browsing, so it doesn't
bother me anymore.

My god, how this sucks BIG TIME #¤%!&&!"#¤!!!

Before I never had to read the actual names in the contact list, my eyes
would focus very easily on the contact with the right texture and color. Now
clicking on the right contact is waaaaaaay slower. (dont even mention
expanding all the detial, I dont want icons the size of my kids toys)

Even though you could not see in detail what the picture was, your visual
memory would make it seem so as you already knew what the picture was
supposed to be. The human mind has a quite remarkable capability of filling
in missing information. Maybe not for the people at Microsoft apparently...

What stupid developer made this descision? Change this back emediatley!

/R
