I am having problems installing Office 2003 Service Pack 2. I can't
understand why. Can anyone help? I have tried many methods such as using
automatic updates which has worked successfully but the only problem is
installing.
Error Code: 0x51F
Microsoft Update tells me this is the error code.
Security Update for Windows XP (KB893756) is another download I have had
problems installing.
Can anyone help?

Error code 0x51F – Apparently this occurs when Office Setup cannot locate the
installation source because it’s either corrupted or deleted.
Downloading the full update for Office 2003 may fix this problem.

Office2003SP2-KB887616-FullFile-ENU.exe

or

Some have reported that placing the Office 2003 CD in the drive before trying to
install the update also fixes the problem.

Otherwise try repairing your installation of Office 2003

Method 1 – Open Word, go to Help – Select Detect and Repair

or use Method 2 -

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Click the Office 2003 program that you want to repair, and then click Change.
4. In the Maintenance Mode Options dialog box, click Reinstall or Repair, and then
click Next.
5. In the Reinstall or Repair Office dialog box, click Detect and Repair errors in my
Office installation, and then click Install.
6. When the repair process is finished, run the update again.

Most likely you will need to have your Office 2003 CD handy.

Office 2003 Tool: Local Installation Source Tool
Quick Description - The Local Installation Source Tool is a wizard to help manage
your Local Installation Source (LIS) on computers running Microsoft Office 2003.
Extract these files - LisTool.exe and LisTool.chm to a new folder of your choice and
double click the LISTOOL.exe.
Choose the Disable LIS option and click next. Select all the check boxes in the
subsequent dialog.
Then proceed to Finish.

None of these methods were able to work. I was unable to install the full
update of Office 2003 Service Pack 2 and unfortunately I don't have the CD on
me because I think someone else in my family may have it. I also had a
problem with trying to install the LIStool. When I tried to open it, the
computer said that this file was not a valid Win32 application.

I am out of ideas really. Do you know anything that may help me? Earlier, I
mentioned that I was having problems installing the following update:
Security Update for Windows XP (KB893756)

That too has failed to install.
