My computer sometimes chooses a hybrid mode, so that going to sleep first
saves memory to the hard drive, as in hibernation. When it does that, it is
noisy and takes a while to go to sleep.
I don't recall whether it's the way Sony set it up or if it's a habit of
Vista in general...
Anyway, all I do is wait the extra minute or two and my computer gets quiet
and dark (except for the sleep LED).
Translation: your problem might just be normal behavior.
