After downloading the following up date:

Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP Service Pack
2 (KB834707)

Windows now offers 2 shut downs one to shut down without applying the update
and one which does.

However, when I select to apply the updates windows goes to a shut down
screen telling me that update one of one is installing and not to turn off my
PC as it will shut down on its own after the update - But it doesn't!

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks Gary

See "AUTOMATIC UPDATE STALLS ON SHUTDOWN" below for a possible solution.

Good luck!

Thanks Edward,

And sorry... should've looked through the newgroup first (im a bit new!)

The solution on that threat seemed to work just by changing the Automatic
updates from auto to manual oking it then changing it back, now allows me to
shut down 'normally'.

Cheers

I went back and followed the instructions again, and this time it seems to
work. Well, at least I can shut down or restart my computer again. I am
manually installing the updates now.

Thanks
