no sound after recommended update

Hi, I hope smeone can help please

I installed Nvidia MCP Audio Processing Unit, recomended by Microsoft, and
now I have no sound, in control panel - sounds everything is greyed out.
I have tried rollback drivers, and downloaded drivers from nvidia asus, also
tried to restore to before update, all has failed.

How do I uninstall this update?

I have on board sound windows xp sp2.
Would buying a sound card solve it?
