I recently upgraded to WMP 10 and also downloaded and installed MS updates.
Afterwards my sound will not work. When I try to play media in my WMP it
turns orange with a little exclamation point beside it. I used to have a
little 'speaker icon' in my lower toolbar..it's goine. When I click on the
sound effect icon it says there is no sound device.. HELP PLEASE> I need my
sound repaired as I have to cut CD's for my student's classes this week.
Please assist with a very basic detailed explanation as I am not an avid
'internal pc person' lol
Thank you so much.

Rolling your computer back to when it was doing what you wanted doesn't
always work, but frequently it does. Could be your quick fix.

Michael,
I attempted that first.. to no avail. I 've tried rolling back the
driver.nope...I'm not a computer ace, but I think my driver is missing??? or
misplaced. It was fine before my updates etc..Next suggestion please.. I'm
listening. Thank you.

Well, if not an ace, already you're at least a computer Queen.

start > control panel > performance and maintenance >
system > Hardware tab > Device Manager button
Look for a yellow exclamation point.
right click the yellow exclamation point.
click properties. on the general tab
click the troubleshoot button.

Otherwise, expand Sound, video and game controllers.
If you have Realtek High Definition Audio in there,
try disabling or uninstalling it.

HAHA Thank you Michael,.. I learned about system restore when I first
started using PC's. I was told by an ITS friend that this was the 'life boat'
for the novice user.
I did a little research about my sound card/driver and found a site to
download an audio driver that is compatible with my system and 'sound
card'??? At least for the moment it works!...Hopefully it won't back track
on me AGAIN.
Have a great weekend and thank you for your help.

Don't try anything yourself Microsoft did this to our computers with the
latest updates, don't think you are the only one with the same problems .Do
you also get get the box at the beginning GENERIC HOST PROCESS? This means
your computer does not know you are your settings and alot of the services
quit running or don't start up at all because of the above PROCESS error. All
we can do is wait for the big M to come up with another patch for this patch.

Richard, You are right. The Driver I downloaded lastnight isn't being
recognized this morning! So, how long does it take BIG M to come up with this
patch? I need my WMP. Is there another Music player that I could use to have
songs listed in it to listen to so I can choose the ones to burn to a cd for
my classes?
Thank you so much for your help.
